SOUTH Africa’s Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi has condemned African leaders who seek medical treatment out of the African continent

SOUTH Africa’s Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi has condemned African leaders who seek medical treatment out of the African continent, describing the health tourism practice as an absolute drain on the affected countries budgets.

Motsoaledi said this at the World Health Organisation (WHO) regional conference in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe yesterday.

He called upon African leaders to build up and improve their nations health services lead by seeking local treatment for their ailments as African leaders are the only leaders who seek medical services outside their own continent or motherland.

To the ordinary African people, this is quite portent as African presidents, such as Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and the ex Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos are guilty of health tourism exploits to Europe, Asia and America effectively placing a heavy burdern on their nations and people as they continue to drain national resources for personal gain while the ordinary people are left with poorly resourced public hospitals.
